Recent legislative changes to the right to request flexible working arrangements
New changes in the Secure Jobs and Better Pay legislation have strengthened the right for employees to request flexible working arrangements in three areas from 6 June 2023. Here is a snapshot of the changes and some practical points to consider implementing in your business.
Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards 2023

R U OK?
A conversation could save a life. R U OK? Day 2023 is Thursday 14 September and is our national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, ‘are you OK?’ and start a meaningful conversation whenever they spot the signs that someone they care about might be struggling with life.
Working from home in Winter
How great is working from home? Being able to walk outside in the sunshine on a much needed break between meetings, having fresh air coming through the windows of your home office, hanging your washing on the line at lunch time to dry it in sun, its really wonderful for your mental health! But what happens during winter? When you can’t go on that lunchtime walk or you can’t have your window open because of all the rain and its cold and grey and miserable outside?
SAD, the winter blues, and what can you do to help your employees
It’s not uncommon for people to experience a dip in their mental state during the colder months. People who live with mental illnesses often find winter can exacerbate some of their usual symptoms. And, for some (usually) mentally healthy people, winter can create feelings of melancholy, despondency and dampened motivation.
The Fair Work Act has changed again!
In June 2023, The Australian Government passed the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Protecting Worker Entitlements) Act 2023. This means there are some changes to the Fair Work Act which have already come into effect, or will come into effect in the next year.

Why it’s so important to know if you’ve engaged an employee or contractor
We spend a lot of time supporting clients to correctly allocate the people they engage as Employees, Contactor deemed an Employee or Independent Contractors. For some of our clients, the line can feel blurry in the beginning. Once you understand the definition, it is clear cut and easy to implement. If you are working with independent contractors, it’s important to confirm that the correct documentation is in place, and they don’t meet the definition of an employee by accident. 2022 High Court decisions impacted the definitions and compliance expectations. With pay-as-you-go, superannuation and FBT obligations for employers changing there are even more reasons to be aware and be across the details.
